At Noel Park Primary School we understand and value pupil’s voice. All our pupils have an opportunity to play an active role in decisions that affect their learning and well-being. Our Academy Council plays an essential part in ensuring our pupils have a greater say over matters that affect their academy life and education. In this way, our children have a greater sense of belonging, become more confident when putting forward ideas and develop a greater understanding of the need to work co-operatively for the good of others

Our academy councillors represent their peers and bring forward their views to improve the academy. There are 24 Councillors, one boy and one girl from each class from Year 3 to Year 6. Each Councillor has been elected by their class to be their representative at the meetings. The Academy Council has also held an election to choose a Chair person who will be running the meetings, a Vice Chair person who replaces the Chair if absent and also assist the Chair person and a Secretary who takes the minutes of the meetings.

Our Academy Council meets every Wednesdays between 9 and 9.40. At the meetings, we decide what we can do to improve the academy. We don’t just decide ourselves what to do, our class mates put their ideas down too, through questionnaires, surveys and discussions. We also work in collaboration with the Sports Council, Food Council, and Eco Council and we are currently planning exciting projects.

Below are some of the Academy Council achievements and successes so far:

·         We have donated over £240 for Sports Relief charity by dressing up in our best sports outfits.

·         In collaboration with the Sports Council, we have planned a “fun run” during Anti-Bullying week. All the money collected will be donated to the Beat-Bullying charity.

·         In order to raise awareness against bullying, we are having a “beat bullying” poster competition. We plan to display the best posters around the academy so that the message against bullying is always present in our academy.

·         With the help of our Head Teacher and Site Manager, the holes in the tarmac in the playground have been fixed. Our play area is now a safer place.

·         With the help of our Head Teacher and Site Manager, the locks in the toilets have been fixed.

The Academy Council is proud of representing the pupil’s voice at Noel Park Primary School and thrives to achieve better things to make our academy as good as it can possibly be.

Our Councillors will always be available to listen to new suggestions, ideas, etc from pupils, staff and parents.
